THE INSTITUTE FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH AND NUCLEAR ENERGY (INRNE) comes from the Institute of Physics with atomic research and experimental base where the main installation is the research IRT-2000 reactor (IP with AREB). The IP was founded in 1956 by acad. Georgi Nadjakov, the discoverer of electrets, and he was its director until 1972, when IP was divided into: Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy with an IRT-2000 research reactor and Institute for Solid State Physics. Starting from IP and later in INRNE a lot of scientists have worked and many of them are still working, who have exceptional contributions to the development of science and its applications in Bulgaria: Prof. E. Karamihajlova - in radiology, Prof. S. Ivanov - in television, eng. S.Ruskov - in nuclear energy, acad. P. Markov - in high energy physics, Prof. N. Kashukeev - in modern neutron investigations, acad. W. Andrejtscheff - in nuclear structure studies, as well as the prominent theorists: professor R. Zajkov, academicians Ch. Ja. Christov, E. G. Nadjakov, I. Todorov, D. Stojanov and many others.
