Summary of CERN visit to INRNE/BAS
A CERN delegation visited INRNE on 27-29 March 2001 to discuss possible
collaborations with CERN, the possibility of setting up a EU project related
to GRID computing and the situation concerning international network connectivity.
After presentations by CERN on Technology Transfer, LHC Computing and
the EU DataGrid as well as a summary of CERN’s purchasing rules, we discussed
various possibilities and came to the following conclusions:
-
An bi-lateral project will be prepared to collaborate in the domain of
compute farms. CERN will support the initial setup of a farm at INRNE with
loan of computing equipment and training for computer experts from INRNE.
This will be an important first step to prepare for LHC Computing in Bulgaria
and to allow participation in GRID projects.
-
We will jointly investigate the possibility of improving the international
network connectivity for Research Institutions in Bulgaria. The present
situation is considered very limiting.
-
INRNE, assisted by CERN, will look into the possibility of proposing an
EU project related to the DataGrid.
-
Bulgaria is interested in CERN technology. CERN will provide such information
primarily through the National Technology Transfer Officer.
